Q1
Does the Edward’s League course prepare students for the primary school final exam?

The primary school final exam tests language skills at A2 level. The Edward’s League method takes students to B1/B1+ level, which is comparable to that of the secondary school leaving exam. All the language skills are comprehensively developed. Special emphasis is put on writing, listening, reading and grammar – the same skills that are tested in the primary school final exam.

Q2
Which has more emphasis - speaking or grammar?

The Edward’s League course has been designed to facilitate the consistent and harmonious development of all the language skills. No skill – reading, writing, listening or speaking – is left out.
Students have the opportunity to both acquire the language naturally and to master grammar rules, step by step, in a structured way, using carefully controlled exercises (drills).
We are committed to the all-round development of our students’ skills to help them use English both freely and correctly.

Q3
Isn’t the group too big?

As with the other Edu Bears methods, Edward’s League groups are limited to a maximum of 10 students. This size allows both individual attention from the teacher and the freedom to work in pairs or small groups on communicative tasks.

Q4
How will I know how my child is doing?

In the Edward’s League method, parents continue to receive regular updates on what has been covered in class and what homework has been set, either by email, through the online gradebook or via the Edu Bears platform. An information meeting for parents is also organised after a few weeks of classes.
Teachers use the Bears’ Station platform to keep parents informed of their child’s progress. Written reports are also sent to parents twice a year with information on credits earned.

Q5
Does the course use grades or exams?

The assessment system used in our Edu Bears methods is designed to motivate learners rather than to point out their mistakes. We also want to avoid unnecessary comparisons and rankings between students, which is why we abandoned ‘school’ grades in favour of a pass system (grade: PASS). Students progress to the next level of the course when they have passed all the required assignments – we do not hold separate final exams.

Q6
Is the app mandatory?

The Homework Site educational app is an integral and compulsory part of the course. Students use the app for homework, and regular activity on the platform is required to pass. Learners are also able to check that they have completed the exercises correctly, which further enhances their independence and improves their study skills.
