Heading for excellence!

Effective and authentic English for 11 to 14-year-olds

Edward’s League is a method designed to facilitate the comprehensive development of all the language skills, including fluency and communicative accuracy.

What is Edward like?

The Edward’s League method is based on a combination of traditional teaching techniques and a modern approach to education, following the principles of neuroscience-based learning.

Our books prepare students for Cambridge examinations with exercises that help them develop all the skills they need to pass. That said, our focus is not just on grammar or being good at taking tests. We are driven by a clear objective at all times – communication! It is important for students to be able to confidently and accurately communicate in a foreign language, which is why the course uses real-life language and original content prepared by native speakers.

At the same time, at each stage of learning, students have the opportunity to review their progress, identify their strengths and weaknesses and plan ahead. This boosts their motivation and helps them take ownership of the learning process.

Comprehensive development of all the language skills

Our Edward’s League course places equal emphasis on each of the four language skills: reading, writing, listening comprehension and effective communication.

Real-life, accurate communication

Our students work with original content prepared by native speakers. This promotes fluency and linguistic accuracy, which we consider extremely important.

Preparation for international examinations

Edward’s League students are very well prepared for the Cambridge examinations, which provide an objective confirmation of the level of English language proficiency they have achieved.

The next step in an ambitious educational pathway

Edward’s League is the last of our methods that make up a challenging learning pathway, designed to help students achieve an advanced level of language proficiency before they finish primary school.

Why do our students appreciate Edward’s League?

Designed for pre-teens and younger teenagers, the Edward’s League method combines a strong drive to develop students’ language skills with the support they need to achieve their goals. Our teaching approach combines traditional language-rich materials with modern methodology to empower students to improve their language skills, boost motivation and foster autonomy in the learning process. Our students achieve an advanced level of language proficiency, which allows them to take international examinations and acquire certificates to prove their knowledge.

Comprehensive language development

We steadily develop proficiency in reading, writing, listening and communication.

A modern twist on traditional teaching techniques

The method uses stimulating resources and provides exposure to the authentic language of native speakers in an environment designed to support learning.

Intrinsic motivation

Setting measurable goals and providing regular feedback helps to keep motivation high.

Homework Site

With our educational app, students consolidate and extend what they have learnt in class in an engaging and enjoyable way.

Ambitious but relaxed

We draw inspiration from the old saying, “Constant dropping wears away a stone.” We do not believe in short-term bursts of motivation or cramming for exams only to forget all the information quickly afterwards. This is exhausting and demotivating. Through carefully designed language experiences, our learners are able to easily master really extensive and difficult course material, which is often beyond the ability of their peers. We make this possible by planning each lesson in detail and relying on systematic and regular revision.

Authentic English

We are driven by a clear objective at all times - communication! It is important for students to be able to communicate confidently and effectively in the foreign language, and also to use correct linguistic forms and phrases. We introduce elements of real English, which is authentic, personalised language used by native speakers in real-life contexts. We do not simplify or rephrase this content in any way. As a result, our graduates can easily understand and communicate in English in everyday situations, when travelling or interacting with peers from other countries.

Test skills

Our coursebooks prepare students for the Cambridge international examinations by covering the material required for the A2 Key and B1 Preliminary certificates, and practising all the exam skills. At each stage of learning, students have the opportunity to review their progress, identify their strengths and weaknesses and plan ahead. As a result, the skills they acquire will far exceed the current primary school core curriculum.

Why Edward’s League?

Edward’s League is a licensed method of teaching English to pre-teens and young teenagers aged 11-14. Our primary objective is to facilitate the consistent and integrated development of all the language skills – reading, writing and listening comprehension, as well as fluent communication. We aim to strengthen the language awareness of our students by providing challenging content and opportunities for exploration.

Classes are based on interesting materials that incorporate authentic language – as spoken by native speakers. With the support of a committed teacher and an emphasis on interaction, teamwork and constructive feedback, the classes also prepare students for international exams.

Homework Site app

Edward’s League students are given access to our Homework Site educational app. It is designed to help them consolidate and build on the knowledge acquired in class. Completing homework assignments in the app is just as important as classroom participation.

It is the combination of both that ensures excellent learning outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

Any questions? Check if the answers are in our FAQ section below. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to contact us.

Q1

How long are Edward’s League classes and how often do they take place?

Edward’s League classes last 60 minutes each and are held twice a week. Private primary schools have the option of adopting a schedule tailored to their needs, for example by spreading the material across 5 lesson units per week (45 minutes each).

Q2

Can a child who has not previously completed the Savvy Ed method join an Edward’s League course?

Given the volume of language input and the pace at which material is covered in class, Edward’s League is recommended for students who have previously attended Savvy Ed and have passed all the required tests. On a case-by-case basis, it is possible to admit children who have been learning English using another challenging method. However, it is then necessary to verify the student’s knowledge by means of a placement test administered by methodology consultants at an Accredited Edward’s League Method Centre.

Q3

Does the Edward’s League course include a dedicated app?

Each Edward’s League student gets access to our Homework Site educational app. This is where students prepare for classes and do their online homework, consolidating and repeating the course material covered in class. This approach helps them achieve superior learning outcomes.

Q4

How is the students’ knowledge tested?

At each level of the Edward’s League method, teachers administer regular oral tests throughout the year which are designed to evaluate and consolidate students’ knowledge. There are also written tests throughout the course in the form of pop quizzes (short vocabulary tests) or mock exams. The system is transparent and the requirements are clearly communicated to students to ensure that they are not taken by surprise. Students know what will be tested and how, and they can prepare for these tests by working systematically at home and in class.

Q5

Does the Edward’s League course prepare learners for the Cambridge exams?

Yes. The Edward’s League course prepares learners for the following Cambridge exams: A2 Key and B1 Preliminary. A mock exam is set each year to test the students’ level of proficiency and to help teachers or methodology consultants recommend the appropriate exam.

Q6

Is it obligatory to take the exam?

Taking Cambridge exams is not compulsory. Having the option for young learners to take the examinations will depend on the approach of individual Accredited Edward’s League Method Centres, but we strongly encourage students to make the most of such an opportunity. Getting an international certificate of language proficiency is a confidence-building experience and it has a positive impact on students’ motivation to learn.

Q7

Besides attending classes, do students also need to work at home?

Homework assignments are an essential part of the course. We treat them as extra lessons that the student can complete on their own, thus maximising the time they spend practising the language. They are given by teachers on a regular basis – both in the Home Book workbook and in the Homework Site app – and are designed to consolidate and repeat what has been learnt in class. Homework assignments help students prepare for tests, and completing them regularly makes it easier to progress smoothly to the next level of the course.
